The small rice cooker I use every week

September 4, 2026

Rice is part of most meals in my house, so I wanted a cooker that could stay on the counter without taking up much room. I bought this small Aroma because it was affordable and had the settings I would actually use.

The Aroma Digital Rice Cooker, 4-cup uncooked / 8-cup cooked (ARC-914SBD) makes white rice, brown rice, and faster batches with the Flash Rice setting. It also has a steam tray and a Keep Warm setting.

For jasmine rice, I rinse it, add water using the lines inside the pot, press White Rice, and leave it alone. Two cups uncooked gives me dinner with enough left for fried rice the next day. Four cups works when more people are eating, but the cooker is still small enough that the inner pot is easy to wash.

I also use the steam tray for vegetables or tofu while the rice cooks. The Keep Warm setting is useful when dinner gets pushed back and I do not want to start another batch later.

The cooker comes with a rice paddle and measuring cup. Use the included cup when following the water lines because it is smaller than a standard U.S. measuring cup.

It is not fancy, but it has become one of the most useful things on my counter. If you cook rice several times a week and do not need a large cooker, this is an easy place to start.
