The purple shampoo I use when my highlights turn warm

September 4, 2026

Highlights never stay the same shade they were at the salon. After a few washes, mine start looking warmer and a little dull. That is when I bring out purple shampoo.

I use the L'Oréal Paris EverPure Purple Shampoo and Conditioner. It is a sulfate-free drugstore set made for blonde, bleached, highlighted brunette, silver, and gray hair.

I do not use it every time I wash my hair. Twice a week is enough for me. I shampoo, rinse well, then work the conditioner through my hair and leave it on for a couple of minutes before rinsing.

If my hair starts picking up a purple or ashy cast, I use less product and rinse sooner the next time. A few minutes is usually plenty.

It does not replace a salon toner, but it helps me keep the yellow and orange tones down between appointments. If your hair is not blonde, bleached, gray, silver, or highlighted, this probably is not the product you need.
